Transfer Log file - CFTLOG

A CFTLOG object defines the log file declarations. Transfer CFT records the significant events occurring during a transfer, such as:

  • Session start
  • Transfer start
  • Restart points
  • Transfer end
  • Session close
  • Incidents

Access the CFTLOG window

  1. Click to expand the Initial Configuration folder in the left pane object manger.
  2. Right click the Log file object.
  3. Click List all Objects. Alternately, double click Log file.

The CFTLOG window is displayed in the right pane.

Completing the CFTLOG General tab

The fields and components displayed in the CFTLOG General tab are schematically illustrated below. Complete the tabs and click OK to confirm.

Field

afname

Enter the name of the alternate log file. Make sure that the file exists and is empty. If not, the standard output is used and data may be truncated.

content

From the drop-down list, select the type of filter to use on the log file:

  • FULL (default) to display all the messages
  • BRIEF to display only the most important messages

exec

Enter the name of the procedure (up to 64 characters) to execute when the monitor switches to the alternate file.

You can use the &FLOG symbolic variable which contains the name of the last log file used before switching (current file).

fname

Enter the name of the log file. Make sure that the file exists and is empty. If not, the standard output is used and data may be truncated.

id

Enter a unique object identifier.

length

Enter the size of log file records.

  • 160 (default )
  • a value from 0 to 1024

format

Indicates the log messages format. The format parameter indicates whether the former record structure should be used (V23 values) or the new structure (V24 values).

In version 2.4 and higher, some attribute sizes have been increased, for example Filename. These attribute sizes change the new account record.

maxrec

Enter the maximum number of records before an automatic switch is performed:

  • 0 (default)
  • a value

notify

Use this field to define the destination of the operator messages selected from the log messages.

opermsg

Use this field to define the message categories intended for the operator. Click to select the Exploitation and System message categories.

switch

Enter the time at which the monitor automatically switches to the alternate log file.

  • 000000 (default)
  • a value in the HHMMSS format

If you do not enter a value, the monitor switches log files daily at midnight.

If you define a value for both maxrec and switch fields, log files are automatically switched:

  • every day at the time indicated
  • depending on the number of records in the file

Deleting the CFTLOG object

To delete the CFTLOG object:

  1. Click on the Log file object in the left pane object manager.
  2. Right click and select Delete in the contextual menu. The CFTLOG object appears grey in the left pane, and its definitions are no longer used by Transfer CFT.

Replacing a CFTLOG object

To replace the CFTLOG object:

  1. Click on the Log file object in the left pane object manager.
  2. Right click and select Replace in the contextual menu. You can replace the CFTLOG object with either a new object or an existing CFTLOG object. Select accordingly from:
  3. A new object  
  4. An existing object
  1. Depending on your choice above, continue as follows:
  2. If you are creating a new object return to the section Defining the CFTLOG object .
  3. If you are using an existing object, select the CFTLOG from the CFTLOG list. Click Ok to confirm.

Removing the CFTLOG link from CFTPARM

To replace the CFTLOG object:

  1. Click on the CFTLOG object in the left pane object manager.
  2. Right click and select Remove the CFTPARM object link in the contextual menu.

A confirmation dialog box is displayed.

  1. Click Yes to confirm, or alternatively No to abandon the procedure. If you confirmed removing the object link, Log file and its icon appear grayed.

Completing the Sentinel tab

The fields and components displayed in the CFTLOG Sentinel tab are schematically illustrated below.

Log tracking activated

Select this option to indicate to Transfer CFT that it must track changes of transfer states for the catalog and log messages (by default, only messages with a severity of E or F).

By default, this check box is cleared.

Message type

Enter the type of messages to be notified.

  • ALERT: to notify only the messages indicated in the ntfalert field
  • OPERMSG: to notify only the messages indicated in the opermsg field
  • CUSTO: customize to have any other combination of the following values:
  • I: information messages
  • W: warning messages
  • E: error messages
  • F: fatal error messages

Limiting the number of rows in the Transfer CFT client log 

Procedure

  1. Set the limit of catalog/log rows that can be transferred to the client in the unified configuration. Five thousand is the default value.

    uconf:copilot.cft.maxcatrows=5000 
    uconf:copilot.cft.maxlogrows=5000

  2. Restart Copilot:

    copstop -f
    copstart
