Window properties

This topic describes the screens, menus and icons that appear in the Graphical User Interface.

Main GUI screen

After you log in, the GUI displays the main interface screen as described in the following sections.

Title bar

At the top of the Main window, the title bar identifies the software and the current plug-in.

The Main menu bar is displayed just below the Title bar, and comprises the following menus.

  • File
  • Options
  • Window
  • Help

These menus are described in the General menus topic.

Toolbar icons

In the Main window, the toolbar displays the set of buttons described in the following table.


Connects a new product

Disconnects from current product

Sets up page layout for printing

Prints the lists currently displayed in the right pane workspace

Previews and defines the printing process

Edit a file - if configured in the unified configuration, this view also displays all connected drives

Automatically starts the Transfer wizards:

  • Send file
  • Send message
  • Send reply
  • Negative acknowledgement
  • Receive file

Displays the communication list for the default COM

Define batch functions

Reconfiguration function

Query a Transfer CFT cache, or queries Transfer CFT system information

Left pane object manager

The user interface displays the object manager for Transfer CFT in the left pane window.

Transfer CFT is displayed as a tree structure in the left pane window, or object manager. The object manager is represented as a series of folders and node icons. You can click on the folders and icons in this object manager to expand or, alternately, reduce the object manager structure.

The left pane of the Main window is empty if you disconnect from the Transfer CFT but do not quit the Transfer CFT UI.

Right pane workspace

The right pane workspace displays the product object or element that you select in the left pane object manager.

There two types of object windows to manage in the right pane workspace:

  • Internal frame windows: If you reduce this type window while you are working in the right pane workspace, it is represented by a tab at the bottom of the workspace. Click this tab to restore the window in the workspace.
  • Dialog boxes: These boxes are external to the workspace. You must close a dialog box to continue using the object manager.

Status bar

The Status bar displays a contextual message, specific to the current product plug-in, located at the bottom of the window pane.

Java Console

The product version and service pack number are displayed in the Java console. This topic introduces the user interface properties that are static and applicable in all plug-ins. Depending on the product plug-in that you connect to, you can have additional product specific menus and icons available.

Transfer CFT UI specific buttons

Transfer CFT UI specific buttons are buttons that have a consistent use throughout the Copilot interface. These buttons are displayed in a variety of dialog boxes and are always used for the same function, a described in the following table.

Note: On MVS systems, you can view but not edit the file.

General window properties

To resize panes and windows in the user interface, position the cursor over the split bar, the window frame, or one of the window corners. When the cursor changes to a double-ended arrow, click and drag the pane or window to resize.

Window icons

Several windows have icons that are displayed on the toolbar near the top of the window. Position the cursor over the icon to display a description of the icon function. The GUI icons are listed in table format with their functions in the sections Toolbar icons and Transfer CFT icons.

Generic buttons

Most user interface windows have the standard Reduce, Maximize, Minimize and Close buttons located on the upper right corner of the window pane.

The following command buttons are frequently displayed at the bottom of the workspace or command windows.

Register modifications and closes the window


Return to the original settings and closes the window


Register any modifications and leaves the window open


Open the Online Help


Returns the column lists to their original default settings

Text fields

Fields are text boxes in which you can enter information. A field that is grey is inactive. You cannot modify the entry, or enter new information.

Numeric fields

Some fields include up-down arrows. You use these to scroll through a list that displays the minimum and maximum value limits for that field.

Many windows include drop-down lists. Click the drop-down arrow to display and select from the list of available values.

Scroll menus

Many windows include scroll menus. Position the cursor over the arrow and click to display the list of available values. Release the cursor on the selected value.
