Operations involving the different users

Operations involving different users in Design and Test/Production environments

Design phase

During the design and configuration phase, you customize the environment.

User Task description
Analyst Specifies the business process to manage the data flows.
Manual modification or correction in InterPlay is only one step in the life of the files that travel through a data flow. The Analyst specifies the entire lifecycle of the files including the phases that require InterPlay.
Creates via the PassPort user interface users, roles and permissions to control the access to the InterPlay Designer. This operation is typically performed by an Analyst with administration rights.

Configures InterPlay using the InterPlay Designer to define:

  • Data formats InterPlay processes.
  • Editors that allow you to view and modify the data.
  • Dictionaries to localize the labels into the target languages.
  • Rule-based functions to control the data authoring and import.

  • Function calls to execute specific code.
  • Life cycle of the objects and collections of objects in InterPlay.
  • Datasources that connect to database tables.
  • Import conditions that determine the format to use when a new file is imported into InterPlay
  • Editor selection that determine the editor to use when opening an object for edit.
  • Global settings for the user interface.
  • Global settings for the InterPlay server.
Simulates the data modification and tests the editors in a deployed InterPlay instance.
Creates report templates.
Developer Implements the business process that is to manage the data flows integrating InterPlay into the global system.

Provides data structure definitions:

  • Defines or completes the data formats via the Designer.
  • Imports the AccountingIntegrator Event-type definitions into the Designer.

Develops:

  • Exits using custom code that InterPlay calls when executing various tasks such as collecting possible values, controlling the entered values, and so on.
  • Services: alternate implementation of an InterPlay service like a new import file reader, export file writer, monitoring service or security interface.
Deploys the configuration on the Web server of the test environment (or redeploys after updates to exits and services as well as to technical configuration files). Once validated the configuration will then be deployed to the production or pre-production environment.

Runtime phase (test or production)

Recycling

When InterPlay is used in the context of recycling, the business users will typically perform the following tasks.

All users can generate reports.

User Task description
Operator

Analyzes the incoming files and decides how to manage them. Based on the file properties and statistics on errors, he can either:

  • Trash the files.
  • Send them for manual correction if necessary.
  • Require the sending application to correct and re-issue the files.
Changes the status of the file so that it is processed by the next person in the workflow or by an automatic activity.
Security Manager

Manages the users and the privileges the users are entitled to.

Performs specific actions: release any lock, purge.

Production Analyst

Modifies parts of the configuration:

  • Import conditions
  • Editor selection
  • Editor settings

You can set up a limited Designer at runtime to enable authorized users to modify safe parts of the configuration.

Corrector Analyzes the list of errors and data in error.

Performs:

  • Unitary corrections on the data.
  • Mass modification on filtered data in one single transaction.
Changes the status of the corrected data to "Completed". The data can then be processed and sent to the next activity in the business process. The data may be processed when the entire file is corrected or the corrected data can be extracted regularly. The complete or partial file is sent back into the data flow to be controlled once more.

Authoring

When InterPlay is used in the context of authoring, the business users typically perform the following tasks.

All users can generate reports.

User Task description
Author

Creates new files, new objects and fills them via the appropriate editors.

Performs mass data modification in a single transaction.

Changes the status of the corrected data to "completed" so that the validator can check the data.

Corrects the data has not been validated.
Validator Checks the entered data.

Changes the status of the data to "validated" or "rejected". If rejected, the data must be corrected by the Author. If accepted, data is sent to the data flow.

Changes the status of the corrected data to mark it as "completed". The data can then be processed and sent to the next activity in the business process. The data may be processed when the entire file is corrected or the corrected data can be extracted regularly. The complete or partial file is sent back into the data flow to be controlled once more.
Security Manager

Manages the users and their privileges.

Performs specific actions: release any lock, purge.
