Upgrade steps

Prerequisites

  • Make sure your Interchange installation is version 5.10.1 or later. If it is an earlier version, you must first upgrade to a recent Interchange version, before upgrading to B2Bi. See Upgrade Interchange to version 5.10.1 or later.
  • Obtain a B2Bi license.
  • If you are pointing the upgrade to a new database, you must transfer the data from the old database to the new database before you can complete the upgrade procedure. In some cases, this may require the use of third-party software.

Procedure

  1. Stop Interchange.
  2. Back up the common folder and the database before pointing the database or common folder to a new installation.
  3. Back up all Interchange custom components and other customizations. The following table lists items to consider for backup:
  4. Item Location
    Custom Java libraries <Interchange_Shared_Dir>\local\java\lib
    Private keys <Interchange_Shared_Dir>\common\conf\keys
    tuning.properties file

If you applied environment-specific tuning on a version of Interchange that you want to retain in the B2Bi upgrade, then the tuning.properties file should be backed up and restored to the updated installation at the following location:

    <B2Bi_install_directory>\Interchange\conf

Note   The tuning.properties file has to be identical on every node in the cluster.
    jvmArguments.xml file

If you have created any customized classes or jars and added references to these items in jvmArguments.xml in Interchange, and you want to retain these customizations for the upgrade to B2Bi, the jvmArguments.xml file must be backed up and restored to the updated installation at the following location:

    <B2Bi_install_directory>\Interchange\conf

The customized classes and jars must also be backed up and restored to the updated installation.

  5. Using the B2Bi Server installer, install B2Bi 2.3.2 (and the most recent Service Pack) on the same machine as Interchange. During the installation procedure:
    1. Specify a B2Bi installation name and directory. The directory must be different from the previously installed Interchange directory.

    2. Select the option Upgrade from Interchange 5.10 or later. For information about using this option, see About the "Upgrade from Interchange 5.10.1 or later" option.

    3. Indicate the path to the Interchange root installation from which you are upgrading.

    4. Enter the location of the B2Bi shared directory for storing documents and other files for the trading engine.

    5. Specify the location of the B2Bi license file.

    6. Point the B2Bi installer to the Interchange database, or optionally point the installer to a new database. This step is only necessary if you do not select the "Upgrade from Interchange 5.10 or later" in step b.

Important: If you are changing databases, you must transfer the data from the old database to the new database before continuing the grade to B2Bi.

  6. Start the B2Bi Server.
  7. Make sure you have started the trading engine node to initiate the connection to integration engine tasks.

You can now use B2Bi as a gateway for message exchanges.

After you upgrade

  • B2Bi uses either the former Interchange database, or the new database if you specified one during the upgrade. To verify the database usage, check the file <B2Bi_install_directory>/Interchange/conf/datastoreconfig.xml.
  • B2Bi uses the former Interchange “common” folder. To verify the common directory location, check the file <B2Bi_install_directory>/Interchange/conf/filereg.xml .
  • You can trade messages using B2Bi. To use the full range of B2Bi functionality, you must perform additional configuration steps in the B2Bi user interface. For details, see the B2Bi Administrator Guide.
  • You may remove the Interchange trading data that was collected before the upgrade. Due to significant changes in the object structure between Interchange and B2Bi, it is not possible to view your Interchange trading data in the upgraded B2Bi Message Tracker. See .
  • If you are upgrading from an environment that supported WebTrader exchanges, see the WebTrader Installation Guide for additional steps to implement WebTrader services.
