Cluster farm installation

A B2Bi cluster farm comprises:

  • Multiple independent B2Bi server clusters - Each cluster has its own shared file system and database
  • A single farm server – This is a central (high available) component which provides the shared layer of services between the clusters.

For a description of B2Bi cluster farm architecture and functionality, see theB2Bi Administrator Guide.

Cluster farm installation requirements

To install a cluster farm you require:

  • A B2Bi server installer to install the production clusters
  • An installation license for each cluster machine
  • A database for each cluster, to be shared between cluster nodes
  • A B2Bi Farm server installer to install the farm server

Cluster farm installation scenarios

The order you install the elements of the cluster farm does not matter; however, the most efficient installation order is to begin with the farm server.

The following scenarios provide cluster farm installation examples:

Scenario 1: New installation beginning with the farm server

  1. Install the B2Bi farm server. Note the farm server host name and access port.
  2. Install clusters 1 to n using the B2Bi Server installer. During the installation of each cluster, select the option to operate as a farm client and enter the farm server connection parameters.

Scenario 2: Build a cluster farm from a new or pre-existing B2Bi installation

  1. Install clusters 1 to n in normal (stand-alone) mode, using the B2Bi Server installer. If B2Bi clusters are already installed, skip this step.
  2. Install the B2Bi farm server. Note, the farm server host name and access port.
  3. For each cluster that you want to add to the farm, run the B2Bi Server installer in "configure" mode. During the configuration session, select the option to operate the cluster as a farm client and enter the farm server connection parameters.

Scenario 3: Add a cluster to a cluster farm

  1. Note the B2Bi Farm server host name and access port.
  2. Install additional clusters as required using the B2Bi Server installer. During the installation, select to operate each cluster as a farm client and enter the farm server connection parameters.

Scenario 4: Remove a cluster from a cluster farm

  1. On the cluster that you want to remove from farm operation, run the B2Bi Server installer in "configure" mode.
  2. Clear the option to operate the cluster as a farm client.
