Manage service packs and patches

You can manage service packs with Unix or Windows.

Rules

The following general rules apply to B2Bi service packs and patches:

  • They are installed and uninstalled through the B2Bi update application in the GUI , console or unattended mode.
  • For the Client only, they can be applied on a partially installed solution without generating errors. For example, if you do not have one of the standard libraries installed as part of your B2Bi deployment, you can install an update that includes the standard library.

Review of the installer mode options

You can run the B2Bi installers in the following modes:

  • Update - Enables installation and removal of updates (service packs and patches). Run the installer in this mode to install, review, and remove updates.
  • Install - Enables the installation of the main product files. In this mode you cannot install or remove updates.
  • Uninstall - Enables the removal of the main product files. In this mode you cannot install or remove updates.
  • Configure- Enables the configuration of the main product files. In this mode you cannot install or remove either the main product files or updates.

For Windows, you must run all modes as an administrator.

Install or remove an update on a clustered B2Bi server installation

When you install updates, the installer stops and starts the integration engine in the background to perform configuration actions. These starts and stops can potentially create some inconsistencies between the nodes of a multi-node cluster installation.

To safely update a multi-node B2Bi cluster:

  1. Shutdown node1 and node2.
  2. Update node1 completely.
  3. Update node2 completely.
  4. Start node1.
  5. Wait until B2Bi is started and the database is completely updated.
  6. Start node2.
