B2Bi 2.3.1 Administrator Guide Sentinel How Sentinel works B2Bi Tracked Objects for Sentinel Sentinel is a B2Bi product for monitoring the business and technical events that occur in your transfer environment. Use Sentinel to collect and view information about: Inbound and outbound transfer events Message handling events Integration engine task status changes Integration engine message queue overflow B2Bi and Secure Relay node status Technical information about exchanged electronic documents To enable you to view the collected information, Sentinel provides two user interfaces: Sentinel Viewer – In this interface you view B2Bi-dedicated graphical displays (dashboards) that show statistics and status of exchanges in your B2Bi environment. The B2Bi dashboards include links to lists of messages with the possibility of viewing details of any specific item. Sentinel Monitoring – In this interface you view lists and graphs of various types of network and transformation events (transfers, status changes, acknowledgements, detection, processing, and so on). By selecting any event from any list of events, you can view details of a specific event and graphs of related events (incoming transfer, transformation, outgoing transfer, and so on). In Sentinel Monitoring you can set filtering parameters to view only the types of events that are pertinent to your monitoring requirements. A Sentinel installation for B2Bi can include the following elements: Sentinel – End-to-end monitoring application that collects data on selected network events and generates statistics from that data. You install Sentinel a dedicated installer. Composer (optional) – Sentinel management application that enables you to create and edit monitoring requests, graphs and monitoring displays (dashboards). You install Composer a dedicated installer. How Sentinel works During runtime operations, B2Bi sends data to the Sentinel Server each time pre-determined events occur. Administration users can add to this data by creating maps that generate monitoring data, and then add the maps to B2Bi processing steps. Sentinel then records the data in a database table with a structure that is determined by a Tracked Object. This data is then available for organized searches and for the generation of graphic displays and alerts. Users can view data in Dashboards in the Sentinel Dashboard Viewer, or in events lists and graphs in the Sentinel Monitoring interface. B2Bi Tracked Objects for Sentinel Sentinel uses Tracked Objects to store the data it receives from tracked applications. Each Tracked Object defines a specific set of data and receives data for specific types of application events. For B2Bi, Sentinel uses the following Tracked Objects: B2Bi Message Tracked Object B2Bi System Tracked Object HeartBeat Tracked Object Tracked Objects have changed From version 2.2.1, B2Bi delivers a simplified set of Tracked Objects. If you have upgraded from earlier versions you should note the changes in the Tracked Objects set, which will have an impact on your display of data in Sentinel. For details, see the B2Bi Installation Guide, "Changes in Sentinel Tracked Objects". Other Tracked Objects If you extend your B2Bi installation by integrating additional Axway products, you may have additional Tracked Objects for handling other system-generated data. Additionally, you can create and deploy your own custom Tracked Objects to collect special tracking data.
