Email (detached) trading configuration

When you add a community trading pickup with a detached email server to a community, Activator splits the information you provide into separate POP and SMTP entries on the Delivery exchanges page. The POP settings indicate how Activator retrieves email messages from partners. You must provide the SMTP settings to your trading partners so they know how to send messages to the community.

The term "detached" is used to distinguish this email method (which uses an external POP server), from the system’s embedded SMTP server.

To add an embedded email server see Email (embedded) trading configuration .

The following are the fields in the exchange wizard for configuring the detached email server transport for a community.

  • Email address – The email address that the remote partner uses to send messages to your local community.
  • POP server – The name of the POP server that Activator polls for messages sent by your partner. This must be a fully qualified domain name or IP address.
  • Port – The POP server port. Default = 110
  • User name – The user name to connect to the server. The User name field description is limited to 128 characters.
  • Password – The password to connect to the server. The Password, and any Confirm password and are limited to 128 characters.
  • Authentication type:
    • USER/PASS – Select this option to use standard POP authentication (user/password transmitted in plain text).
    • APOP – Select this option if the server you are connecting to supports APOP (Authenticated Post Office Protocol). APOP is an extension of traditional POP that enables user passwords to be encrypted while being transmitted over networks, including the Internet.

Set the system property to permit EDI processing

To enable Activator to automatically process the incoming EDI files that are attached to emails, regardless of the used Mime type, after you configure Activator for the reception of email messages you must set a system property to force Activator to ignore the ContentMimeType attribute value. To do this:

  1. Log into the Activator user interface as an administrator.
  2. Manually enter the following URL in your browser: http://<localhost or machinename>:<port>/ui/core/SystemProperties#
  3. The Systems Properties page is displayed.
  4. At the bottom of the page click Show default system properties.
  5. Find the default system property entry actionTree.clearContentTypeProtocolsList, and click Add Property.
  6. In the Value field, enter AS2.
  7. Click Add.
