View and manage nodes

After you add and start Activator nodes you can view information about the nodes on the System management page. This same information is also visible on the UI home page.

Node status

The System management page, Node tab displays a status for each node. Trading engine nodes can have one of the following statuses:

  • Not running
  • Starting
  • Running

Add a trading engine node

  1. From the menu bar select System management > System management.
  2. On the System management page, click Add a Trading engine node.
  3. On the Add a node page, make sure the Trading engine node type is selected and the correct Host machine is selected.
  4. Click Add.
  5. Activator adds a trading engine node to the lists of nodes on this machine.

Start the trading engine node

To start a trading engine node, either

  • Click the Start all nodes command, located below the lists of trading engines.
  • Click the Start button located on a trading engine node entry.

Stop the trading engine node

You stop one or more trading engine nodes using a single command.

To stop one or more trading engine nodes, do one of the following:

  • Click the Stop all nodes command, located below the lists of trading engines.
  • Click the Stop button located on a trading engine node entry.

When you execute either of these actions:

  • The trading engine stops.

Pause/restart pickup message consumption

Users with the right to manage nodes can pause (or "throttle") the consumption of messages on the Activator system from the System management page. This is useful, for example, when it is necessary to flush all current messages from the system.

Users can also use the restart command to manually resume message consumption if the system was intentionally started in the throttled state.

Pause consumption

Activator consumes messages through application and trading pickups. To pause message consumption, on the System management page click Pause pickups for all trading engine nodes.

When you select this option:

  • Trading pickups and application pickups on all cluster nodes stop polling and consuming messages.
  • The Mode column for the trading engine node displays Pickups paused.
  • The pause command changes to Restart pickups for all trading engine nodes.
  • Activator continues to process all messages that have already been consumed.
  • Retries of failed messages continue.

Resume consumption

To resume message consumption, click Restart pickups for all trading engine nodes.
