About Entities

An Entity is the repository users connect to when they log on to Axway Composer. An Entity includes:

  • one Composer interface, the associated repository and associated server
  • one or more AccountingIntegrator Enabler  Rule Engines that you configure in the Topography workbench

Each Entity is made up of Folders that are similar to standard Windows folders or directories. Folders provide separate, distinct workplaces for storing and defining objects. The existence of independent Folders allows users to group objects together, for example, all the objects related to a single project, or all the objects defined by one user.

Purpose of the Entity Browser

The Entity Browser lists all objects to which you have authorized access in the Composer repository. The Browser provides a search tool that enables you to locate objects quickly, depending on the criteria that you specify. You can search for objects created by a particular user, or objects with a given life cycle status. You can also restrict the search to a specific object type or to a given Folder.

Using the Entity Browser

Whereas the left pane only provides access to authorized WorkFolders in the local Entity, the Entity Browser also provides access to all the PrebuiltFolders in the local Entity. However, objects that you display from the Entity Browser are for consultation only and cannot be modified unless these objects are in your current folder. To modify an object, you must open the Properties window from the left pane.

To display the Entity Browser, click on the toolbar. Alternatively, select Entity Browser from the Tools menu.

The Entity Browser includesa:

  • Navigator pane that lists authorized Folders and provides Find/Replace criteria
  • Filter pane that lists all objects by type
  • Right pane that displays a restricted set of object attributes, for the objects selected in the Filter pane, or specified by the Find/Replace criteria

The Entity Browser screen is schematically illustrated in this diagram.

The set of objects displayed in the right pane depends on:

  • the Folder that you select on the Folder tab
  • the object types that you select in the Filter pane
  • the criteria that you enter on the Find/Replace tab

Selecting a Folder

Select a Folder on the Folder tab to display all the objects it contains in the right pane. Select the node Folder to display all objects in the current Entity.

Using the Filter pane to restrict the selection

Since a Folder can contain a large number of objects, the Entity Browser provides a filter mechanism to restrict the set of objects displayed in the right pane. The Filter pane lists all available object types for the Axway Server installed with the Composer product. By default, all objects types are checked.

From the list, select the object types to display. Alternatively, use the following buttons to make mass selections. Click:

  • to select all objects
  • to clear the current selection
  • to invert the current selection

Using the right pane

The right pane displays the objects in the selected Folder that correspond to the object types selected in the Filter pane:

  • Either in table format if you only complete the generic attributes in the Filter pane of the Find tab.
  • Or in a tree structure format if you complete the specific user attributes on the Advanced tab.

The display switches back to table format if you:

  • Click on the Folder tab
  • Start a new search in the Find tab
