What is an Enrichment-Rule?

An Enrichment-Rule uses DML functions to modify, enrich and validate the data in an Input-Event segment with information that is not directly available to Composer in the input segments. The Enrichment-Rule is similar to a Transformation-Rule, the main distinction being that the Enrichment-Rule does not change Input-Events into Output-Events, it simply changes the values of data within the current Input-Event segments. (That is, the structure remains the same, only the data is altered.) When this data is modified, the result can be used by the Transformation-Rules that process the modified segment.

An Enrichment-Rule is available for reuse in different definitions (processing associated with Input-Event type segments), provided that the segment structures are compatible with the structure of the Rule.

The content of the modified Input-Event is written as an output to an exchange zone. The modified Input-Event may later be processed by another application (Financial Integrator, for example).

Object dependencies

When you define or import an object, it is stored in the metadata repository and is available for reuse by other objects. Typically, the objects that you define exist in a specific object hierarchy. That is, objects:

  • use objects below them in the hierarchy
  • are used by objects above them in the hierarchy

To help you manage the interlinked network of objects, the software provides the Object Dependencies Browser that displays the object dependencies for a selected object.

The following table lists the objects that use and are used by Enrichment-Rules.

How you define an Enrichment-Rule

Before you define an Enrichment-Rule

Before you create an Enrichment-Rule, you must create the following objects:

  1. Business-Document
  2. Mapping-Template
  3. Linked objects used in the Mapping Rule tab:
  • Variable
  • Table

Defining an Enrichment-Rule

Create the Enrichment-Rule object from the Dictionary tab.

To define a new Enrichment-Rule object, complete the following tabs:

In addition, the Enrichment-Rule properties window contains the following tabs:

  • Signature tab
  • Description tab

After you define an Enrichment-Rule

After you define an Enrichment-Rule  object, you can:

  • associate the Enrichment-Rule with the segments to be changed in the Input-Event type processing parameters.
  • use the Enrichment-Rule in different definitions (processing associated with Input-Event type segments), provided that the segment structures are compatible with the structure of the rule in the structure of an Input-Event.

How you use an Enrichment-Rule

You can perform all basic operations on Enrichment-Rule objects, depending on your user rights. [FOR DETAILS: Working with objects: Start here]

The Enrichment-Rule object does not follow the standard object life cycle. You cannot explicitly send this object to Production.
