Example configuration for remote syslog

To send syslog messages to a remote server, you can reconfigure the log destinations using the Web Administration Interface.

In this example, messages which would normally be sent to /var/log/messages are rerouted to a remote server.

Follow these steps:

  1. Select System Logs NG in the WAI menu.
  1. Click Log Destinations and click the messages destination.
  2. Edit destination
  3. Select the Syslog server option.
  4. Select TCP or UDP communication for the Network protocol.
  5. Enter the IP address of the remote syslog server in the Server address field.
  6. Enter the port number of the remote syslog server or select the default. (If you do not know this information you must contact the administrator of your remote syslog server).
  7. Click the Save button.
  8. The updates are displayed on the Log Destinations page.
  9. Click Return to log destinations and click Apply Configuration to update the syslog-ng process.
